Loy Krathong

Today here in Thailand is Loy Krathong Day. It's not a public holiday, because it all happens after dark.

Krathongs, which vary in size from a few inches in diameter to maybe a couple of feet, are made using banana leaves and fresh flowers. The main quality, however is its capability to float on water. Lighted joss sticks and candles are added, and usually a small coin or two. Then, after dark it's down to the river or the sea or the village pond, where the krathong is gently sent to float away.

As it disappears downstream so it takes with it any bad luck that you may have had during the past twelve months, thus giving hope for good luck in the coming new year.

Being a traditional Thai celebration the day can't possibly end without a kareoke session and maybe a few beers to boot! A wonderful evening ahead full of happy, smiling,Thai faces.
